Cookie Monster's Adelaide!
Blitz Adelaide kick-started the 2024/25 Blitz Golf League in fine style.
The atmosphere was incredible and the crowd was treated to a top class field including Wade Ormsby, Adam Bland, Jack Buchanan and Jak Carter amongst some of the fancied pros; alongside celebrity talent included Greg Blewett and the anticipated showdowns between Crows and Port players.
In the Round 1 6-hole blitz, 3 players shared the lead with Wade Ormsby, Peter Cooke and Jak Carter all shooting -3. For the first time in Blitz history 2 celebrity challengers qualified through the first round including Crows Captain Jordan Dawson and ex-Australian cricket legend Greg Blewett.
Previous Blitz golf champion Antonio Murdaca, last year’s Adelaide winner Campbell Rawson and last year’s overall series winner Adam Bland also advanced.
The 3-hole second round blitz featured some challenging scoring; with even the short 90m stadium hole par 3 was proving difficult. Peter Cooke and Kristalle Blum were the only players to go under par each shooting -1, whilst Adam Bland and Jordan Dawson also advanced to the final after Jack Buchanan bogied his final hole; and Wade Ormsby and Jak Carter couldn’t snatch the birdies required on the Stadium Hole in their final hole of the round.
The Final had everything! In the 1-hole stadium hole final, Peter Cooke hit his tee shot long but it didn’t find the penalty zone and instead found its way directly under the fence surrounding the hole. The ensuing drop without penalty still left him with plenty to do; but he stepped up and sunk a 15” putt to force a playoff with Adam Bland and Jordan Dawson, whilst Kristalle missed a short putt to finish her day in 4th.
Back to the Stadium Hole tee to replay the final, and this time Peter and Adam hit the green to leave themselves good albeit long birdie chances whilst Jordan hit one of the craziest shots you might ever witness - hitting a rock beyond the OB that projected the ball in the most miraculous way - not only back onto the green but to within 15” of the hole!
After Adam and Jordan missed their chances, Peter sunk his second consecutive long putt from around 15” to clinch his first ever Blitz Golf win to the jubilation of his supporters. A massive thank you to everyone who supported the event. The setup looked absolutely incredible.
We are now onto Victoria with the Red Rocks Golf Course hosting the second event of the series for a Saturday twilight spectacle.
